SUMMARY:Socialism for Future Conference
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place primarily in German\, but many panels are going to be live-translated into English as well. Which ones exactly is indicated in the program below. \nSome panels are also going to be livestreamed here. Which ones is also indicated in the program below. \nIn order to participate\, please register here. \nDescription\nWe are experiencing a regressive phase of capitalism\, including—and especially—with regards to climate policy. A broad front has formed against a socio-ecological transformation and has sharply slowed down ecological modernization. Fossil-fuel dependency—from natural gas to internal-combustion-engine cars—is back. Yet the coming ecological catastrophes are foreseeable; seven of the nine planetary boundaries have already been exceeded.\nYet every crisis also presents an opportunity. Rarely has the need for systemic change been as clear as it is today. We need a left-wing alternative to disaster capitalism. The programmatic concept of green socialism can help point the way out of the current crises.\nAt the conference\, we want to discuss together: What lies ahead for us under the current social conditions? What contradictions are emerging? What does “green socialism” actually mean\, and how can the concept be developed? What initial projects exist—and what might ecological class politics look like in practice? \nOrganizers\nThis event is organized by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in cooperation with Communia e.V.\, the Network Democratic Economic Planning\, the journal Prokla\, the Institute for Critical Theory (InkriT)\, the Association for critical study of society (AkG)\, and the AkG’s Critical China Forum. SUMMARY:Lucas Plan 50th Anniversary Celebration: An Idea Whose Time Must Come
DESCRIPTION:A conference to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Lucas Plan will be happening on Sunday 21st November from 10:30AM-5:30PM UTC+0 at University Place\, Manchester. \nA summary of the conference can be found below: \n“50 years after the Lucas Plan\, workers\, activists\, students & academics unite in Manchester\, 21 Nov 2026\, for socially useful production now \n\n\n\n\n50 years ago\, workers at the Lucas Aerospace arms company launched their pioneering Alternative Workers Plan. Faced with threats to their jobs\, workers at Lucas Aerospace responded with a visionary\, positive plan that challenged economic orthodoxy. \nThey proposed 150 detailed ideas for socially useful products the company could make\, such as heat pumps\, wind turbines and kidney machines\, instead of fighter jet parts. \nThe Lucas Plan became famous worldwide\, sparking other groups of workers to propose their own plans. In Italy today\, workers occupying the former GKN auto plant are putting those ideas into practice\, making cargo bikes and solar panels. \nSOCIALLY USEFUL PRODUCTION NOW! \nBrian Salisbury and Phil Asquith\, the surviving active members of the Lucas workers’ Combine say: \n“We’re inviting you to join us in Manchester\, not just to celebrate this anniversary\, but to help us build a new movement for socially useful production. That means policies and products that overcome the problems of inequality\, poverty\, environmental destruction and conflict created by the last 50 years of neoliberalism. \nThe crises afflicting the world demand a response from all of us\, but mainstream politics and the market economy are completely failing to deal with them. So just as in the 1970s\, it’s time for ordinary people to take charge. We want to work with social movements and communities to develop a new alternative plan for Britain’s future\, for our children and grandchildren.” \nHear Lucas Aerospace Shop Stewards and connect with new generations of workers\, activists and communities to plan the economic and social transformation we need. \n\nClimate Jobs Not Bombs!\nFor a just and green transition\nHuman-centred technology\, not AI-driven automation and deskilling\n\nFor more information contact info@breakingtheframe.org.uk \nWatch this space for news of the screening of the award-winning documentary\, THE PLAN\, and a performance of Banner Theatre’s new play about the Lucas Plan in the week before the conference.” \nYou can register to attend the conference here\, while you can find out more about the conference here.
