Yousaf Nishat-Botero

Yousaf Nishat-Botero holds a PhD in Organization Studies from Bayes Business School, City St George’s, University of London and an MA in Philosophy & Contemporary Critical Theory from the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, Kingston University. His PhD thesis titled ‘Organization, Space, Nature: Urban-agrarian Futures of Ecological Planning’ explored how democratic planning might be reframed and reimagined in this age of intensifying climate crises, and what we might learn about this from municipal/metropolitan planning bodies experimenting with elements of ecological planning in the context of extended urbanization. Some of his work on democratic economic/ecological planning can be read in academic journals like Organization and Competition & Change. Yousaf is currently working on economic planning in the agriculture-energy-finance nexus, and exploring notions of Fossil Desire / Fossil Subjectivity, understood as the embodied and collective psycho-social forces that sustain and are shaped by the unsustainably fossil-fueled and extractive system of production, distribution, consumption, and waste that currently structures everyday life on this planet. Yousaf is also a Visiting Lecturer at City St George’s, University of London, teaching classical and contemporary social theory. He is also a member of the editorial collective at ephemera, which is an independent and open access journal on theory and politics in organisation.
