I am an alumnus of Manchester University (PhD in Economics) and Boğaziçi University (BA and MA in Economics). I am currently a member of the Economics Department at Boğaziçi University. Additionally, I have held various teaching and research positions at diverse universities in Turkey, Europe, and the United States, including Bologna, Erasmus, Purdue, Sabancı, UMASS, and Utah. I have been serving on the European Commission’s expert group on social inclusion since 2009.
My research interests include ecological economics (with an emphasis on ecological conflicts, the political ecology of Turkey, and food policies), political economy (with an emphasis on social policy, governance, and resistance to neoliberalism), and democratic planning and alternative economic organizations (with an emphasis on the calculation debate, participatory planning modalities, the knowledge problem, and cooperatives).
I am an enthusiastic hill walker and long-distance runner.
