Nurul Alam Masud

Nurul Alam Masud is a accomplished Author, Social Justice Activist, and Campaigner. He is the founder and chief executive of Participatory Research & Action Network (PRAAN), a policy advocacy organization based in Dhaka. In addition, he serves as National Secretary of the Bangladesh Food Security Network (Khani). He holds a Master of Social Sciences (MSS) degree in Political Science from National University, Bangladesh, as well as a Bachelor of Law degree. He is also a graduate from the Nonviolence Summer Institute at the University of Rhode Island in the United States.

Masud possesses extensive knowledge, expertise, and experience in the field of analyzing public policies and contemporary issues, including governance, IFIs, rural livelihoods, human rights, agrarian reform, and ecological and economic justice issues. He has numerous publications and writings on agrarian reform, education, governance, climate change, tax justice, budget literacy, mass-media, and youth empowerment. With a long history of training, popular mobilization, and people-centric advocacy, Masud has been exposed to both national and international arenas, allowing him to develop a deep understanding of the issues he works on.

Masud has over 18 years of experience in human rights, environmental, and social justice campaigning in a number of NGOs. He began his career in 2001 in a media-focused non-profit organization in Bangladesh. Within two years, he shifted his focus to human rights, governance, and the agrarian sector and in 2005 he formed a public-interest advocacy organization. Since then, he has been working intensively with the poor, marginalized, and underprivileged biodiversity-dependent peoples in Bangladesh.
