La Pensée, an old and reputable French journal, has dedicated a section of its latest issue to AI. In this section, an article by Pierre Khalfa, “La planification à l’épreuve de l’IA” (Planning after AI), directly addresses democratic economic planning issues and the literature on them. A second author, Hannah Bensussan, who is already involved in the planning debate, refers to planning only in passing in her article entitled “IA et rapports d’échange: le marché à marche forcée” (AI and Exchange Relations: Market on the Fast Track).
Khalfa’s article suggests that “AI could be a useful tool for sector-based and/or goal-oriented planning. From an emancipatory perspective, framing the issue in terms of the plan versus the market is a dead end.” Bensussan’s paper “considers three effects of AI on exchange relationships: an amplification effect, a manipulation effect, and an exchange-shaping effect.”
