Aaron Benanav, a professor at Cornell University, just published the article Beyond Capitalism—1 in issue 153 of the New Left Review. The article critically evaluates visions of socialism, the Soviet Union, the socialist calculation debate, and Keynesian social democracy in order to develop the theoretical foundations of a multi-criterial socialist economy.
This is the first of a two-part article on the topic of envisioning an economy beyond capitalism. The second part of the article will be published in issue 154 of the New Left Review and will focus on elaborating the institutional design of a multi-criterial socialist economy. Benanav is also writing a book on the topic that will be published later this year.
Here’s the summary of the article:
In the first instalment of a major contribution to the reconceptualization of a post-capitalist social order, Aaron Benanav marshals insights from a long century of socialist thought and practice—Cabet, Marx, Preobrazhensky, Neurath, Keynes—to lay the theoretical foundations for his own multi-criterial model.
