On the website of the Participatory Economy Project, Anders Sandström has published an article that summarises the main arguments in his new book, The Participatory Economy: Adding Realism to Democratic Planning, that further elaborates on the participatory economy, a decentralised socialist planning model.
A summary of the article can be found below:
If the participatory economy model is to be taken seriously in broader segments of the general population, I think it is absolutely fundamental to address concerns about the model’s lack of realism, fill gaps between theory and reality, and elaborate on the presentations of the model so that at least some presentations go beyond the abstractions in the field of economics and include solutions and answers to the challenges that a possible future implementation in a complex reality poses. The book The Participatory Economy. Adding Realism to Democratic Planning aspires to do this, or at least to start a discussion. Of course, in the end, there is no way to predict the exact details of a future participatory economy, but the mere knowledge that there exist potential viable solutions is, in itself, crucial when trying to convince people that an alternative to the market economy is possible.
