There is a new book coming out in November 2024 about ecosocialist planning. Reclaiming the Future: A Beginner’s Guide to Planning the Economy, written by a London based activist Simon Hannah, aims to introduce ideas and theories around moving beyond capitalism within the context of a environmental crisis.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union and moves by China to integrate into global capitalism, the idea of socialist planning seems dead. Hannah makes the argument that given the scale of the crisis of growing populist right wing authoritarianism and environmental decline we urgently need to reintroduce the ideas of:
- Establishing social control over investment and production
- Instituting of participatory democracy
- Abolishing the social division of labour
- Abolition of commodity production.
