Capitalism, especially western capitalism, is in a deep crisis. Economic stimulus programs can no longer stimulate significant economic growth. But what comes after capitalism?
This is the question posed by economic historian Aaron Benanav in the New Left Review. In 120 pages, he outlines an economic model based on multiple criteria, meaning that gross domestic product would no longer be the decisive indicator, but rather other standards (social, ecological, quality of life, etc.) would become decisive.
Benanav combines unorthodox Marxist and Keynesian positions and focuses on investments that are decided democratically. In [these two episodes], Ole Nymoen and Wolfgang M. Schmitt discuss the first part of Benanav’s essay “Beyond Capitalism.”
