Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Publishes Study on Translating Democratic Economic Planning Ideas into Policy Proposals for German Mobility Sector

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation has published the study “Fighting for a New Mobility System – Arguments for a Technologically Advanced Public Alternative” (German original title: “Ein neues Mobilitätssystem erstreiten – Argumente für eine technologisch avancierte öffentliche Alternative”), authored by Jakob Heyer. The study was conceptualized by the German network democratic economic planning (German: Netzwerk demokratische Wirtschaftsplanung), which has been cooperating with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation since multiple years. You can find a translated excert from the conclusion of the study below:

“This study has sought to answer the second of the questions raised in the preface: How can the long-term horizon of systemic change—essential to left-wing positions—in the sense of democratic
economic planning be translated into a concrete, sector-specific, and immediately implementable policy
domain? Based on a historical analysis
of the transformation of mobility regimes and drawing on recent studies on the future of mobility (DB Regio 2025), it has implemented this project using the example of the mobility sector. The study also began with the observation that left-wing positions often lack a positive counter-vision and that the desired alternative mobility system has not yet been systematically thought through. As a result, the positions remain too defensive: The expansion of traditional eco-friendly transportation is called for without developing a concept that could truly challenge the private car’s actual strengths—flexibility, shorter travel times, and comfort—in a meaningful way.”
