INDEP online Community Discussion on the Fundamentals of Democratic Economic Planning – 1st Session

This event will be a relaxed, open-ended, moderated community discussion on some of the fundamental questions about democratic economic planning:

– What should we plan and what should we not plan? How should the planned sector interface with the unplanned, household, and external sectors?
– What units of account should we utilize, and for what purposes?
– How should we respond to the structural and/or political limits that any DEP proposal must confront? For example, how are we limited by international balance of payments, by politics, by culture, by resources, etc, and how could we respond to those constraints?
– How should planning goals be democratically decided?
– What measures can we take today to realize DEP? For instance, do we need to build or sieze the means of economic planning? If we are to build, then what? If we are to sieze, then how? If both, then each to what extent?

The discussion will open with a focus on these questions, but if during our discussion better questions around which to anchor these issues are discovered, we will shift our focus appropriately. All are welcome, and we look forward to hearing a diversity of persepctives on these matters.

We are interested in hearing from as many people in our network as possible. As such, this event will be offered at two different times, to accommodate all timezones to the best of our ability.
